Time for a Website Audit?
You audited your company books. When was the last time you audited your company website?
by K.E.Lubrecht2 April 2006
Websites are meant to provide current information for your customers. They can be a resource for your existing customers or a first impression for those interested in your products or services.
No matter what the reason for the visit, you want to be sure that it is a good experience and portrays a positive image of your company.
While an in depth audit is more involved, check the indicators below to see if it is time to update your website or consider a rebuild.
How many of these statements are true about your website?
- Is your site easy to read and use?
- Can visitors quickly tell what your company does?
- Is it clear who you are?
- Is your site accessible to visitors with physical challenges? Not only is this a legal issue, but you don't want to miss out on business from those customers.
- Do you have a privacy policy?
- Do you have a return policy listed if it is appropriate?
- Will your visitors understand the jargon you use on your site?
- Can your content be reached in about 3 clicks?
- Do your links go where you expect? None are broken or go to pages that have been removed.
- Is your content written for the web not just a transfer from print?
- Have you removed deprecated code? Do you know what it is?
- Can you easily make changes throughout the site?
- Are you getting as many visitors as you would like?
- Is current contact information registered with your domain name registrar?
- Is your website integrated into your marketing plan?
- Is your website consistent with the rest of your marketing collateral?
- Does your website help build your brand?
- Do you own or have permission to use the graphics and content on your site?
- Are your products and services representative of your current offerings?
- Do you have a media kit available?
- Does your site include appropriate meta data for search engines?
- Do you have content to support your keywords?
